WHITE HOT: Pro Tips to Successfully Designing with White

White – it’s the most misunderstood of colors, except amongst the realm of professional interior designers. Wondering what the pros know about white?

The first big reveal: White it’s not a single color. Visit Benjamin Moore’s website or Robb & Stucky’s Fort Myers store and you’ll be smitten with hundreds of shades of white. Cool whites flirt with blue tones. Warm whites cast their lot with ivory. Some whites have a tint of mint, and others blush under close scrutiny.

Professional interior designers love white walls in all their infinite variety. And why not? White walls open sight lines. Spaces feel and look tangibly larger and more inviting. And, you can keep your options open with white. Color trends come and go with the season. White is never an off-the-wall paint color recommendation.

Next, the addition of texture takes white to an all new level. Let’s take the head-turning Chelsea sofa from Bernhardt as an example. The dramatically scaled sofa silhouette is fully tufted and outfitted in white leather. It’s all at once haute style and fabulously comfortable.

Today’s top furniture makers also know white is not just for walls and upholstered pieces. Robb & Stucky recently introduced the Oly brand to its Fort Myers store. This San Francisco company combines unusual materials and design principles to create modern (but timeless) masterpieces.

So many Oly designs seem almost sculpted in white. A nickel pedestal base holds a “Gloss White” top to form the Luca Dining Table. Inspiration for the Muriel Cloud Chandelier is also clear: a cluster of cumulous clouds – associated with fair weather and great design, of course.
And don’t miss Oly’s Coral chair. The name is so descriptive: coral-inspired fretwork forms the chair back.

The pros know: White is not a milquetoast color. It’s actually a peek at infinity, and endless decorating options. Pause and consider the white choice.
