What’s New and Next in Interior Design: 2017 Trends Main Image
Our Creative Director (and design mastermind) Mark Stuart returned from this year’s High Point International Home Furnishings Market (aka Furniture Fashion Week) more inspired than ever. How could he not when entering a world of faux fur, metallic accents, whites and blues, pops of color and Lucite…everywhere. We’re getting excited just thinking about it, and to prove it we’re going to run through a few takeaways from Mark’s visit to North Carolina’s design city.

First up, the new nightstand. In today’s world of work and technology it seems we can’t escape our gadgets, especially in our bedrooms. That’s why bedside desks are quickly becoming everyone’s nocturnal buddies. Don’t worry, these desks are not a signal of all work and no play! You can use your desk to read, journal or carry out your nightly beauty regime. They are the perfect fit for small rooms and utilize space beautifully and efficiently.

This desk by Century is the perfect bedside companion.

Lucite, Lucite and more Lucite. How can we put into words how much we love this look? For starters it’s super modern and fresh. It takes up hardly any visual space and it’s just so fun to play with. High-rise condo dwellers love the way it works in small spaces. Chairs, cocktail tables, bed frames – anything can rock the Lucite look and pull it off fabulously.

The Lowell Console by Interlude Home is simply magnificent.

Faux fur will be next year’s hot commodity. Why? Because it adds texture, visual interest and it’s just so cozy and unexpected. Who doesn’t love the feel of a faux fur area rug under their feet? Or a furry chair to cozy up to on chilly nights. Faux fur isn’t just comfortable it’s chic and a little wild. We adore it.

Fur accents add a cozy vibe to any space.

Live-edge furniture, specifically the Origins Collection from Phillips Collection, will be the hippie-chic flower child 2017’s design lineup needs. Furniture from the Origins Collection is made from reclaimed wood found in the jungles of Northern Thailand. If that isn’t enough to make your inner tree-hugger rejoice, each piece is completely unique, raw and naturally beautiful.

Origins accent tables are fabulous conversation pieces..

Finally, bright colors are making a bold comeback in 2017. Upholstered chairs with pops of color, vibrant toss pillows and pieces finished in electrifying hues are taking center stage. The key to designing with brights is to keep it simple. A neutral space with a colorful sofa and flamboyant pillows will do the trick. Just remember to add a little Lucite and you’ll be way ahead of the curve.
