HOSTESS WITH THE MOSTESS

Not everyone can handle their liquor. Alas, it’s the same for furniture too. As we approach the holiday season, Robb & Stucky has masterminded a sobriety test – for furniture, that is – in pursuit of the most fashionable and functional holiday entertaining designs.

First, raise your hand if you’re the designated driver. For those of us at the wheel of holiday revelries, deftly steering the party train, a buffet or sideboard is a must-have. Unless, of course, you’ve got staff at your beck and call. Is there a Hazel in your life?

If not, Robb & Stucky recommends Delaney, a lovely buffet, covered in mirror and a swarthy finish called Mozambique. The spacious cabinet top is begging for a party-sized punch bowl of spiked eggnog. Double doors open to a capacious interior with adjustable shelves to store party essentials. Downton Abbey’s Mrs. Patmore would approve.

Next, the Corridor Bar gets high marks from Robb & Stucky designers and shoppers alike. This modestly sized piece – W36 x H41 x D18.5 – handsomely houses all your potent potables and companion accessories. It’s destined to be party central when the doors open on a strikingly thoughtful and soberly organized interior.

Let’s not forget the totally wide open bar approach. Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams haven’t. Kudos to the Carrara marble top Marquis Bar with two open glass shelves. Here, barware is really elevated to objet d’art status. Champagne flutes, wine glasses, bottles and carafes make an intoxicating statement in this environment – even if sparkling water is the signature drink.

While a great bar may be the sun in your party solar system, don’t forget what Robb & Stucky calls satellite seating. Create thoughtful settings where guests can hive off for intimate conversations and catch-ups. Here, there’s nothing like a tiny table to make a big impact.

We’ve a bevy to choose from at Robb & Stucky. Century’s Martini Accent Table beautifully represents this cadre of accent tables. The tabletop is a thick cut of polished Lucite. It’s like a glacial shard set on an architectural brass frame.

Our great state is not stereotypically the stuff of holiday celebrations. But Florida sleigh bells simply jingle against sunny blue skies. Decorate accordingly, and cheers!
